Christmas in Australia

In 2007 me and my family went to Australia to see my grandparents. Of course it was around Christmas. When we got to Australia my grandparents picked us up and and we had to drive for an hour to get to my grandparents house. When we were there it was very hot because it was summer. We got to chop down our own Christmas tree. On Christmas day it was y we went swimming because it was about 114 dagrees . Over all Christmas was very fun.

To New Zealand

I went to New Zealand in January-Febuary 2010. My mom and dad decided to take me to New Zealand for my birthday. We went to New Zealand to visit family. We stayed at my aunt's house in Hawera. We were very close to the ocean and we went swimming a lot! It was fun to see stock car racing because they don't race them in the United States. Even though it was fun swimming, watching stock cars, and being with family my favorite thing was being able to eat meat pies and fish and chips.

My Trip to Florida

My trip to Florida was a once in a life time thing. We had a beautiful house with an amazing view of the ocean. Everyday we would go swimming either in our pool or in the ocean. Our third day at Florida we went and swam with the dolphins, our dolphin's name was Tallon. That was probably the most expensive thing there but it was one of my favorites. The day after that we got to go to the TurtleHospital that was my favorite because we got to see the turtle ambulance, the E.R and the O.R. Then we went out to the gigantic pool, it was over 200 gallons of water! One day my cousin was snorkaling with a fishing net to see what she could catch, and so the rest of us went out there and she had a lobster in her hand! Last but not least my mom,my sister, and I were out on the dock fishing and I reel in a fish and a 4 foot great black heron was standing right behind us so i turn around and i take the fish off the line and i throw it and it lands in the water and the heron went right in after it.

My Family Trip to St. George

My Dads side of the family and my family dicided to go to St.George for a family trip. So we rented a house with a swimming pool, of course, and then it was time to get there. When we got there we unpacked, Then all of the moms went shopping while the dads watched the kids. Then they rotated and the dads went golfing while the moms watched the kids. But the only thing they had to watch us do was swim in the pool (that was my favorite part). Then all of the other families went to a fair and my family went hiking. We had a great time there and hope to go again soon.

What did you do this summer?

I had the chance to go to Texas with my sister. We went to visit my brother who just got a job down in Austin. While there we had the chance to do some fun things such as...

Visit the state capitol building. Austin has the largest capitol building in the nation. It was VERY big. Inside were statues of Sam Houston and Stephen Austin as well as a cool mosaic on the floor of the rotunda. It showed national emblems for Mexico, Spain, France, the Confederate States of America, and the United States of America. Can you figure out why these five countries were showcased on the floor of the capitol building?

There was also a monument to the Confederacy right outside the capitol building. It was kind of weird to see a monument to the Confederacy since we often view them as being the wrong side during the Civil War, but to the Confederacy the war was really more about the rights of states versus the federal government. I also didn't realize Texas was part of the Confederacy. I thought it was only a territory during the Civil War. I guess that goes to show that even teachers still have things to learn!

We also went to see the bat colony that lives underneath the South Congress Bridge in downtown Austin. This is the largest urban bat colony in the United States. Sadly, we only saw a few bats. (I was kind of hoping to see a swirling vortex of bats like in the Batman movies). This picture was taken of the bats that were flying right over our heads. Right after I took this picture, my sister and I both got pooped on. Do you think this means bats don't like having their picture taken?

We also went shopping along the famous SoCo strip. What would a trip to Texas be if we didn't take time out to try on cowboy boots?

And of course we had to eat. We had some great barbecue and Tex Mex, but we also made sure to stop by Round Rock Donuts.

On our next trip down to Texas, I'm hoping to be able to visit the Alamo and Schlitterbahn Waterpark. Good times!
